Healing Through Connection with Nature
Do You Feel Disconnected, Stressed, or Overwhelmed?
Do you struggle to find calm and clarity in your daily life?
Are you feeling emotionally stuck, weighed down by anxiety or stress?
Have traditional therapy settings felt too formal, restrictive, or disconnected from what you need?
If so, Nature-Based Therapy may offer you a refreshing, healing alternative. By stepping outside, immersing in the natural world, and engaging in mindful movement, you can unlock new ways of processing emotions, reducing stress, and deepening self-awareness.
What Is Nature-Based Therapy?
Nature-Based Therapy (NBT), sometimes referred to as ecotherapy or walk-and-talk therapy, integrates the healing power of nature with evidence-based psychotherapy. Rather than being confined to an office, sessions take place outdoors—whether in a park, on a walking trail, or another natural setting.
This approach leverages biophilia, the innate human connection to nature, to promote psychological well-being. Research shows that time in nature can reduce stress, lower anxiety, improve mood, and enhance cognitive function.
Nature becomes more than just a backdrop—it acts as a co-therapist, providing gentle sensory stimulation, grounding, and a sense of perspective that can be difficult to achieve indoors.
How Nature-Based Therapy Works & Who It Helps
Nature-Based Therapy can be particularly beneficial for individuals struggling with:
✔ Anxiety & Stress – Walking in nature lowers cortisol levels and encourages relaxation.
✔ Depression – Exposure to sunlight and movement help regulate mood.
✔ Trauma & PTSD – Somatic and mindfulness-based approaches support healing in a non-threatening, open space.
✔ Grief & Life Transitions – Nature provides a safe, expansive space to process loss and change.
✔ Creative Blocks – A shift in environment can help unlock inspiration and clarity.
Each session is tailored to your needs. Depending on your comfort level, we may:
Walk side by side for a gentler, less intense therapeutic experience.
Pause for grounding exercises that incorporate mindfulness and deep breathing.
Use nature as a metaphor, exploring what the landscape mirrors in your own life.
Engage in expressive techniques like journaling or creating art with natural materials.
This format encourages flexibility and empowerment—you set the pace, choose where to pause, and remain engaged in a way that feels natural to you.
Why Choose Nature-Based Therapy?
✓ Enhances Emotional Regulation
Time in nature has been scientifically linked to improved mood, lower anxiety, and increased mental clarity.
✓ Encourages Mind-Body Awareness
Walking and movement encourage physical engagement, helping you release emotional tension.
✓ Reduces Therapy Anxiety
Traditional therapy settings can feel intimidating; the informal structure of NBT can make opening up easier.

Walking together, experiencing nature’s unpredictability, and engaging in real-world environments fosters a more authentic, collaborative dynamic between client and therapist.
✓ Aligns With Your Values & Identity
For those who already feel a strong connection to the outdoors—or wish to deepen it—NBT aligns with a lifestyle of mindfulness, sustainability, and holistic well-being.
Addressing Common Concerns About Nature-Based Therapy
What if I’m not very active or have mobility concerns?
Nature-Based Therapy is adaptable! We can find accessible paths or quiet sitting areas. Sessions are tailored to your comfort level—this is not about fitness, but about engagement with the natural world.
What about confidentiality?
We choose discreet routes and discuss best practices for privacy. If we encounter others, we can pause or shift the conversation as needed. Your comfort and confidentiality are always prioritized.
What if the weather is bad?
We plan ahead! If conditions aren’t ideal, we can reschedule, shift to a covered outdoor space, or have a teletherapy session instead.
Does insurance cover Nature-Based Therapy?
Coverage varies by provider. Some clinicians bill under standard therapy codes (POS 11 - Office, POS 99 - Other). We can discuss options based on your insurance.
About Us & Our Experience With Nature-Based Therapy
Healing happens in many forms—at Soul Centered Therapy, we offer therapy that extends beyond the traditional office setting. Our team of therapists integrates Nature-Based Therapy into our practice, offering clients a unique way to reconnect with themselves in an environment that fosters openness, mindfulness, and movement.
Many of our clients have found Walk & Talk Therapy particularly beneficial for psychedelic integration sessions. The spaciousness of nature allows for gentler processing of insights, a deeper connection to embodied wisdom, and a sense of grounded reflection after transformative experiences. Whether integrating the effects of ketamine-assisted therapy, psilocybin experiences, or other altered states of consciousness, the movement and natural surroundings provide a safe, reflective space to unpack, embody, and integrate the lessons learned.
Our therapists come from diverse backgrounds and specialties, with training in mindfulness, somatic awareness, trauma-informed care, and psychedelic integration. Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, trauma, life transitions, or deep personal growth, we offer an approach that meets you where you are—both emotionally and literally—by bringing therapy into nature.
Take the First Step Toward Healing in Nature
