Letting Your Self Lead the Way

What Is Parts Work?

We all have different “parts” of ourselves—inner voices, feelings, and roles that show up in different situations. You might notice an anxious part that over-prepares, a perfectionist part that pushes you, or a wounded part that holds onto pain. These parts aren’t flaws—they’re trying to protect you, often in the only way they know how.

Parts work is a therapeutic approach that helps you understand, support, and harmonize these inner parts so you can feel more aligned, centered, and whole.

One of the most respected and research-supported models of parts work is Internal Family Systems (IFS).

What Is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?

Inside each of us, there is a true Self—the calm, compassionate core of who we are. This Self isn’t just another part; it’s the wise, grounded presence that knows how to bring healing and connection.

Life experiences often cause us to develop protector parts—inner defenders that step in to shield us from pain. Over time, these parts can take over, making it hard to recognize our true Self. We may mistake anxiety, self-doubt, or perfectionism for our identity, when really, these are just parts doing their best to help.

IFS helps us reconnect with our Self and create space for each part to be seen, heard, and healed.

How IFS Works

1. Get to know the different parts of you – What do they feel? What do they need?

2. Support your protectors – Acknowledge their role and help them feel safe.

3. Care for your inner child – Hold space for pain with compassion and curiosity.

4. Restore inner harmony – Let your Self lead with clarity and confidence.

It’s like an orchestra finding its rhythm—when every part is in tune, the whole system thrives.

How IFS Can Help You

IFS is especially helpful for those who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from their inner world. It can support:

✓ Healing your inner child
✓ Managing anxiety & self-doubt
✓ Gently processing trauma & PTSD
✓ Navigating relationship dynamics
✓ Softening perfectionism & self-criticism

The goal isn’t to “fix” you—it’s to help all parts of you feel heard, supported, and integrated.

What to Expect in an IFS Session

IFS therapy is collaborative and paced to your comfort level. In session, you can expect:

→ A space free of judgment and pressure

→ Gentle guidance to explore your inner world

→ Tools to help your parts feel less burdened—and more understood

Over time, your inner system learns to trust your Self as the leader it was always meant to be.
